Chalgrove Community Primary School

Working Together for Excellence

Year 4

Topic

During the Summer term, our class topic is entitled 'Around the World in 65 days!' This is primarily a geography and science based topic. The children discussed which countries around the world they would like to learn about and we will use this to guide us in our planning of the topic. We are currently communicating with a school in Oxford to work on a Global Citizenship project which will culminate in a joint writing task.

Class Trips

This term, we will be visiting Youlbury Scout Camp for our Year 4 one night residential trip. Letters will be sent out for you to sign and return.

P.E

Our PE for the first part of this term is Hockey. After half term, this will change to rounders and athletics. We will also be exploring certain dances from the countries we visit throughout our topic.

Homework

Homework is handed out on a Tuesday and due in the following Monday.  Homework will alternate between a maths and literacy/topic related activity or investigation. Alongside this spellings will be given to learn at home and children will have mini spelling tests on Thursdays.

Children in Year 4 are expected to spend a minimum of 30 minutes per week on their homework activity and try their best to complete as much as possible in this time.  In addition, children are expected to regularly read to an adult at home and practice their times tables (all of which should be learnt off by heart by the end of Year 4).
