During the spring term, our class topic is entitled ‘Similarities and Differences’ This is primarily a geography, history and global citizenship based topic; the children will get the chance to discover and understand the similarities and differences between the lives lived by people in Chalgrove and by people in Chembakolli, a village in India. They will also look at the concept of Apartheid and how ‘difference’ was dealt with in South Africa, prior to the release of Nelson Mandela, and how Apartheid was subsequently ended.
Our PE for the first part of this term will be gymnastics and hockey. After half-term, we will be doing dance and fitness. PE takes place on a Wednesday afternoon with both sessions taking place back to back. Children will need a navy t-shirt, navy or black shorts and trainers, as well as a warm jumper and waterproof jacket to combat the winter weather. All must be named.
In addition, during term 3, we will be swimming at Thame Leisure Centre on Tuesday mornings, so pupils will need to bring their swimming costumes, goggles, hats and towels.
Homework is handed out on a Tuesday and due in the following Monday. Homework will alternate between a maths and literacy/topic related activity or investigation. Alongside this spellings will be given to learn at home and children will have mini spelling tests on Thursdays.
Children in Year 4 are expected to spend a minimum of 30 minutes per week on their homework activity and try their best to complete as much as possible in this time. In addition, children are expected to regularly read to an adult at home and practice their times tables (all of which should be learnt off by heart by the end of Year 4).
