Welcome

‘Pupils take responsibility with enthusiasm and make a good contribution to the community by taking part in community events.’  - Ofsted, Feb 2011.

Set in beautiful countryside in rural Oxfordshire, Chalgrove Community Primary School prides itself on being at the heart of our village. Our pupils and staff take an active role in contributing to community events, such as the annual village May Fair festival, and engage in many fundraising activities.

The school was originally opened in 1877 and has naturally evolved around the growing needs of the community. There are three main buildings, including a purpose-built Foundation Unit, and a refurbished library is due to open shortly.

There is a large sports hall offering excellent facilities during the school day and also for after school clubs, and a large playing field for outdoor sports and activities.

We have recently established a nature reserve called ‘Frogmore’ on an area of land adjacent to the playing field where the children (and often parents) are working on a variety of environmental projects to monitor and observe the local wildlife.

The emphasis at Chalgrove is focused towards a positive learning environment and the weekly ‘Praise assembly’ is one way that we share recognition for learning and behavioural achievements.

During their time at Chalgrove children experience a learning environment where they are able to develop as individuals, gaining confidence and independence to become flexible and creative learners.

The school is currently in an important transition period following the Ofsted inspection in Feb 2011 which placed us in ‘special measures’. A plan for change and significant improvement is already in place and the staff and parents are working together to build a strong leadership team and support network for a school we can all be proud of.
