Term 2 2019
We can't believe we are heading towards Christmas already!
Year 2 have another busy term ahead. We continue with our 'There's No Place like Home' topic, but also include special and significant events including Halloween, Guy Fawkes, Children in Need, Road Safety Week and Christmas!
in English this term Year 2 are studying the book, 'The Magic Paintbrush', a book set in another culture, and they be revising and learning new grammar content. This includes, identifying nouns, adjectives and verbs, and how to use punctuation including question marks and commas in a list. Pupils are also learning how to extend their sentences using conjunctions such as 'because'.
In Maths Year 2 will learn to add and subtract 2-digit number using both informal (drawing) and formal methods (columnar methods). Year 2 will continue practising to count forwards and backwards in 2, 5, 10 and 3s. Closer to Christmas, children will study coordinates and statistics.
The children are excited to get started on our Christmas play, 'Shine, Star, Shine'. This will be performed by Year 2 children, with our Year 1 children supporting the singing. You are invited to come and watch our production on Tuesday 17th December, at 6pm, in the Community Hall.
Homework and spellings will continue to go home every Wednesday and is due in on a Monday. English and Maths will continue to be alternated. We have been really impressed with the level of effort going into homework, and this is really paying off in class, so thank you!
Please do come and meet with us, if you would like to discuss anything. We are available most days after school and appointments can either be made directly with us in the morning or through the school office.
